Public Safety
Public Safety must always be the priority of the District Attorney. It doesn’t matter how many people are arrested, if there isn’t a prosecutor there to see the case through. Our justice system grants prosecutors immense power and with that power, they are entrusted with looking out for the best interest of all of our citizens. As District Attorney, my number one priority is safety.
As Chief Deputy District Attorney, I have prosecuted all types of cases. I am known for pushing cases forward when I know the defendant poses a risk to the victim or the public. In one case, a child sexual assault victim was not believed or supported by her family. I believed her and the evidence supported her version of events. I took the case to trial, knowing that her parents would say they didn’t believe her and that they supported the defendant who was another family member. Ultimately, the defendant was found to have committed the act. Prosecutors must fight for public safety, even when they are faced with difficult circumstances because it is the only way we protect the public.
I want to live in a community where our businesses can thrive and I can feel safe at any hour of the day to be outside, by myself in any part of town. I believe that prosecuting the small crimes, prevents the big ones.
Here are just a few of my ideas for how to improve public safety in Carson City:
Requesting local ordinances to address gaps in statutes
Improving supervision for Defendants out on bail or on probation
Holding monthly drop in hours to be accessible for law enforcement questions
Increasing communication between Child Welfare and Law Enforcement
Completing quarterly caseload checks to improve case outcomes and ensure prosecutors have everything they need to be successful
