Public Resources
The District Attorney is responsible for managing a sizeable budget to fulfill its many constitutional duties. Financially, I pledge to be a keeper of the public trust and to use public resources only as necessary to fulfill my duties to the best of my ability. The office, just like all of us, has to make choices about how to best use its resources and live within its means. I will advocate for what is needed to effectively perform, but not in excess.
Our office got a new case management system in 2021. The system is complex and provides a great number of tools and resources to prosecutors and staff. However, the onboarding process of that system was not without issue. I was assigned by the District Attorney to serve as an administrator of the system, create workflows, and ensure accurate information was being produced. Through these efforts we were able to take the office paperless, reduce the number of overtime hours, and process cases with greater efficiency. Using technology we have improved service and reduced the cost to the public.
Here are just a few of my ideas for how to properly use public resources in the District Attorney’s Office:
Using part time positions to reduce unnecessary overtime
Auditing existing office inventory
Working with IT to prolong the life of necessary equipment
Buy it once and buy it right-getting the right product the first time
Automating processes where possible
